When Janyne and her two girls came into the shelter, they arrived with not much more than the clothes on their backs. They soon transitioned into our Second Step program where they were adopted by a donor for the holidays through our Adopt-a-Family program. Janyne filled out a wish list for herself and her girls not expecting to receive much but was overwhelmed to find that the donor had fulfilled the family’s entire list. She said it made them feel like they were important enough for someone to care about whether they had what they needed.
Now, having rebuilt her life, Janyne wanted to give back by adopting a family this past December. Having gone through our residential program, she knew the emotions our client families often experience and wanted them to feel important enough too.
We finished our 2018 holidays with more than 50 families adopted through our adopt-a-family program, while several individuals and companies organized household and hygiene essential drives, new pajama drives, and gift card drives. Many of our families live on a very limited budget and Christmas gifts, as well as basics like laundry detergent, bed linens, and shoes for growing feet, are often out of reach.
Our families enjoyed a wonderful holiday thanks to the generosity and kindness of donors like Janyne.
Thank you for making a difference in the lives of the families and children we serve.
