A Special Message from Human Options Founding CEO, Vivian Clecak
I am writing to let you know that I will be retiring from my role as the founding CEO of Human Options on January 30, 2016. It has been my privilege to be with this organization for so long.
As a young social worker, I was stunned by the stories I heard from women who were being abused in their own homes. Determined to make a difference, I worked with Carolyn Churm, Margaret Thoreau, and Anne Wright to found Human Options in 1981. Over the years, Human Options has grown into a multi-service organization that has changed thousands of lives. I am humbled to have led Human Options through such extraordinary growth.
As I move on to the next chapter in my own life, I know that with a dedicated board, wonderful staff and the generosity of our donors, Human Options will continue to flourish. I cannot wait to see the amazing things that are in store for the future. I look forward to continuing to support the organization as a donor and friend. Thank you all for your support over the years and for your genuine concern for our community.
A Message from Human Options Board President, Nancy W. Dahan
Dear friends, supporters, clients and community partners,
From Vivian’s passion and dedication, Human Options was born. She has led the organization through an incredible journey of growth and her legacy will live on in every life that has or will be changed because of her vision. Human Options continues to provide safety, healing and a way forward to victims of domestic violence, guided by a strong internal leadership team and a supportive board of directors.
The board has taken a thoughtful and strategic approach to this transition. We are working with a consulting firm, CompassPoint, to assist us in the search for a new CEO and we have established an executive transition task force to guide us through the process. The CEO search shall commence in late summer in order to welcome a new CEO by early winter.
We are well-positioned to embark in the next exciting chapter of Human Options. With our Center for Children and Families and our collaborations in five Family Resource Centers, we are now serving clients in six different locations throughout the county (in addition to our three confidential housing sites). In one of these, we are the lead agency partnering with HOAG Hospital to increase services to at-risk families in Costa Mesa. Located in HOAG’s new Center for Healthy Living, this represents the first collaboration of its kind in ten years. Additionally, on behalf of all the DV organizations in Orange County, we are leading an effort with UCI to develop a domestic violence screening curriculum for healthcare providers, funded by the Orange County Women’s Health Project. We are also expanding our services to military families and working with United Way to help domestic violence victims gain permanent housing. Viewing domestic violence as a public health issue, we have developed new strategies that effectively respond to the complex needs of the community. These innovative collaborations demonstrate the leadership and distinctive qualities that Human Options embodies and will ultimately strengthen families in Orange County.
We are inspired by how far we’ve come, but there is still much to do in order to achieve our vision of a world where no woman or child is afraid in his/her own home. We have an extraordinary leadership team in place, a committed board and an extremely supportive community; we are ready and eager for our next exciting phase.
We look forward to keeping you informed and engaged as we continue to grow and as we welcome a new CEO later this year. If you have any questions in the interim, please do not hesitate to contact Maricela Rios-Faust, Chief Operations Officer, at [email protected] or 949-737-5242 ext. 320.
Vivian’s exceptional career will be celebrated at Serious Fun on Saturday, May 14, 2016 at the St. Regis. Please save the date! We are also honoring her through the Legacy Campaign, which will sustain her incredible legacy.
