AVA’S STORY

Ava was once a dedicated student, excelling in her academics and full of promise for a bright future. However, her life took a drastic turn when her loving partnership morphed into a cycle of manipulation and violence. Despite her academic achievements, Ava felt trapped and isolated from her friends and family.

As her partner’s violent outbursts escalated physically, the risks to her and her five children, especially her newborn, became unbearable. It was during this time that close family members recognized the danger she was in and encouraged her to seek help. They introduced her to Human Options, a safe place where she could find support and resources.

Initially hesitant and overwhelmed by the thought of leaving, Ava ultimately made the courageous choice to protect her children. Arriving at the shelter exhausted but determined, she began to rebuild her life. With the support of the staff and community, Ava not only worked through her trauma but also rediscovered her inner strength and potential. Through counseling and parenting workshops, she transformed her mindset from feeling trapped to embracing hope and empowerment. Her journey was inspiring and became a source of encouragement for others at the shelter.

Today, Ava thrives in stable housing, nurturing her children, and looking back with pride at how far she has come and credits the support and resources at Human Options for providing her with the tools to rebuild her life. Despite enduring abuse and isolation, Ava was resilient and is now creating a better life for herself and her children.
