Naomi’s Story

When Naomi came to Human Options, she was at a pivotal moment in her healing journey. A survivor of both domestic violence and human trafficking, she had endured years of trauma that left her and her young son living in constant fear and uncertainty. Despite everything she had faced, Naomi’s determination to build a safe, stable life for her child never wavered.

At the time, she was living in a local shelter, doing everything she could to take back control of her life. One of her biggest goals was to enroll in California’s Safe at Home program, a confidential address program administered by the Secretary of State. For survivors like Naomi, this program is a vital tool as it allows them to use a secure mailing address in place of their home, work, or school address, helping ensure their privacy and safety as they rebuild their lives.

For Naomi, enrolling in Safe at Home was more than just a formality it was a powerful step toward peace of mind. It meant no longer having to look over her shoulder, no longer living in fear that her abuser might find her. It meant safety, stability, and the freedom to imagine a future filled with possibilities.

With the compassionate support of the Human Options Legal Advocacy team, Naomi successfully enrolled in the program. She is now working closely with an attorney as she prepares to take her next courageous step, legally changing her name. This decision represents more than another layer of protection; it’s a profound act of reclaiming her identity and rewriting her story on her own terms.

Through every brave choice, Naomi is showing her son what resilience looks like, how strength can emerge from pain, and how hope can grow even after the darkest seasons of life. Today, Naomi stands as a testament to what is possible when survivors are met with compassion, resources, and the unwavering belief that healing is within reach.
