Women’s History Month: Celebrating Women Today and Always

By: Arezoo Shahbazi Roa, Prevention & Community Education Director

March is Women’s History Month, a time to honor the strength, resilience, and achievements of women throughout history and in our communities today. While the month has come to an end, we continue to celebrate the pioneers who have broken barriers and fought for equality. It’s also a time to recognize the ongoing struggles women face, particularly when it comes to safety, justice, and empowerment.

At Human Options, we are committed to supporting survivors of relationship violence and advocating for a world where all women can live free from fear. This Women’s History Month, we celebrate the women who have paved the way, the survivors who show unwavering courage, and the communities that uplift them.

Throughout history, women have led the charge for social change, from securing voting rights to advocating for gender equality and safety. Leaders like Sojourner Truth, Dolores Huerta, and Tarana Burke have used their voices to champion women’s rights and create lasting change. Their efforts remind us that progress is possible when we stand together.

Although history provides us with inspiration, the pursuit of women’s rights is ongoing. Advocates, social workers, and community leaders work tirelessly to provide resources, safety, and justice for survivors of relationship violence. At Human Options, we see incredible resilience every day, women reclaiming their lives, finding their voices, and supporting one another.

No one should have to face relationship violence alone. It takes a community of allies, organizations, and supporters to create real change. Survivors of relationship violence demonstrate incredible strength every day. Their stories are a testament to resilience, hope, and the power of support. While every journey is unique, each one serves as a reminder that healing is possible and that no one is alone in their struggle.

You can be a part of the movement to support women, not just this month but always. To make a meaningful impact, it’s important to educate yourself and others about the signs of relationship violence and how to offer support. By understanding these signs, you can better recognize when someone might be in need and provide the necessary support and resources.
