Julianna had worked hard to build a life rooted in independence and stability. She balanced two jobs, managed her own household, and found comfort in the routines she had created, including caring for her beloved pet. When she entered a relationship, she hoped it would bring companionship and support. Instead, the relationship gradually became emotionally and physically abusive, disrupting the safety and stability she had worked so hard to create.
As the abuse escalated, Julianna lived with growing fear, anxiety, and exhaustion while trying to keep up with the demands of work and survive the violence at home. The turning point came when she was forced to flee for her life. In leaving, she lost nearly everything her home, both jobs, and her pet. Without income or housing, she felt overwhelmed and alone. A crisis responder connected her to Human Options, where she found immediate support, safety planning, and compassionate care. Although she arrived frightened and uncertain, she also felt relief: she had reached a place that understood what she was experiencing and prioritized her safety.
With counseling, case management, and support groups, Julianna began processing the trauma she had endured and rebuilding her confidence. Over time, staff saw meaningful signs of growth. She spoke more openly, made eye contact, and began expressing hope for the future. For Julianna, being believed and supported without judgment helped make healing feel possible.
Today, Julianna is in a safer, more stable environment and continues moving toward long-term healing and independence. She is working to secure permanent housing, return to the workforce, and continue counseling as she processes the trauma and grief connected to all she lost. She is rebuilding at her own pace and redefining what safety and stability mean for her future. “I didn’t think I could survive losing everything. Human Options helped me realize I could rebuild my life stronger than before.”
