Behind Every Change: Celebrating Our Incredible Volunteers

At Human Options, we believe in the power of people to create lasting change. Every survivor’s journey toward healing is strengthened by a community that shows up with compassion, with time, with open hearts. This April, during Volunteer Appreciation Month, we are proud to spotlight five extraordinary individuals and groups who embody the spirit of service and who have transformed lives through their commitment to our mission.

Gigi Glantz: A Lifelong Advocate for Survivors
Gigi Glantz has worn many hats in her life, therapist, attorney, mother, mentor, but perhaps none more powerful than that of an unwavering advocate for survivors. Since 2004, Gigi has stood as a pillar of strength within our legal advocacy program, our mother/child mentor initiative, and our 24-hour hotline. Her dedication spans decades and touches countless lives. Beyond her direct service, Gigi has mobilized an entire community, bringing in over 40 volunteers and partnering with churches to bring warmth, meals, and joy to families during the holidays. Her impact is deep, heartfelt, and enduring. As Gigi says, she looks forward to volunteering “forever” and we are grateful she’s chosen Human Options as her forever cause.

Pacific Dental Services: A Corporate Partner with a Heart for Service
When a family walks into a Human Options transitional housing unit for the first time, what they find is more than shelter, they find dignity, care, and the beginnings of hope. Much of this is thanks to our incredible partners at Pacific Dental Services, whose volunteers have transformed our housing units into welcoming homes. From organizing storage spaces to beautifying residences, Pacific Dental Services shows what’s possible when corporate values align with community impact. Their ongoing efforts remind us that healing happens not only through services but also through spaces that feel safe, cared for, and full of possibility.

Claudia Martinez: Bridging Community and Compassion
As a key member of our Community Engagement Advisory Committee, Claudia Martinez brings the voice of the community into every decision she makes. Working with our Newport Mesa Family Resource Center, Claudia helps survivors find the resources they need while also ensuring Human Options stays responsive and connected to real-world needs. She’s a listener, a leader, and a lifeline for so many families navigating domestic violence. Through outreach, volunteer recruitment, and hands-on support, Claudia is not only strengthening families, she’s shaping the future of survivor support in Orange County.

Malia Petrucci: Designing Safety and Sanctuary
For Malia Petrucci, volunteering is both a calling and a craft. As an architect and a Human Options Board Member, she played a central role in the renovation of five transitional housing units, turning them into spaces of comfort, functionality, and hope. Malia’s professional expertise, leadership, and project management skills were instrumental in completing a complex renovation that directly impacts the day-to-day lives of survivors and their children. Her thoughtful designs go beyond aesthetics; they restore dignity and offer survivors a peaceful place to heal and rebuild.

These are just a few of the many extraordinary individuals and groups who give their time, talents, and hearts to Human Options. They remind us that healing doesn’t happen in isolation, it happens in community.

You can be part of that healing.
Whether you have one hour a month or a skill you’d like to share, there’s a place for you at Human Options. Your time can become someone’s turning point.
